Guelph United partners with Fleetwood Town for youth talent camp in England
The process starts on the weekend of October 21-22, when everyone will get the chance to prove themselves to Guelph United coaches, in a pre-trial event. Selected applicants will then move on to the second weekend, which will be supervised by coaches from the Fleetwood Town Football Academy, and will feature two days of trials, and a final day, Sunday October 29, in which the best players will be invited to a full 11-on-11 game. These first phases of the tryouts are going to take place at the Gryphon Soccer Complex, in Guelph, Ontario.
At least one standout player from the event will then be invited, with all expenses paid, to a two-week training camp in Fleetwood, England, at the Fleetwood Town International Academy, where they will have a chance to impress and potentially sign a professional contract with the English club, or one of its international branches.
They can follow in the footsteps of former Guelph soccer standout Keito Lipovschek, one of the current Canadian alumni at Fleetwood’s International Academy, who made his way over to the UK for the Pro Experience Program and has since signed his first professional contract with Fleetwood Town’s branch in Dubai.
Fleetwood Town is an English professional club based in Fleetwood, Lancashire, only an hour away from both Liverpool and Manchester, currently playing in the third-tier of the English pyramid, League One. The club also runs FTIFA, the Fleetwood Town International Football Academy, which aims to provide all players with aspirations of playing at the highest level possible with the platform to realize their goals. FTIFA players train within a professional football club training environment and share the same facilities as all the club’s professional and academy teams. FTIFA’s FTFC coaches and coaching curriculum have a track record in providing a platform to develop and achieve, most famously with Jamie Vardy, the Leicester and England striker, who started his professional career in Fleetwood.
