Press Release from Guelph United F.C. Regarding the 2021 League1 Ontario Season
Guelph, ON (May 8, 2021) - Guelph United Football Club, one of League1 Ontario’s newest clubs, is pleased by the statement made by league on May 7th, 2021, regarding the possible commencement of the 2021 season. We are extremely proud of the work done by L1O – in conjunction with government officials, provincial health units, owners, and of course, the clubs who will be playing this summer – to deliver a safe season that will display our province’s vast array of football talent to the world.
Looking forward to the revised July 2nd start date, Guelph United F.C. will continue to monitor the situation with all of our partners as the COVID-19 pandemic remains an extremely volatile and unpredictable situation. The club is pleased to see rising vaccination rates and dropping infection rates and hopes this will lead to a season where both the Guelph United first and reserve squads can take to the pitch in our inaugural season.
As to whether fans will be allowed into Alumni Stadium for the 2021 season, the club and league will continue working with the proper authorities to ensure the health and safety of all GUFC and L1O staff and players while simultaneously providing an engaging and enjoyable experience for our passionate fanbase. Please stay tuned soon for more updates on fan attendance; any and all information on the matter will be published on all Guelph United official forums.
In the meantime, visit guelphunitedfc.ca/shop to purchase all of our GUFC merch in the run up to the 2021 season to show your fandom everywhere you go!
Thank you and we will see you at Alumni,
The Guelph United Team

About League1 Ontario
League1 Ontario is the Province of Ontario’s Pro-Am, standards-based, senior soccer league.
Founded in 2014 by Ontario Soccer, the league began with a ten team men’s division, which has now grown to 20 teams in the men’s division and includes a separate 14 team women’s division.
League1 Ontario serves as a critical bridge between the high-performance youth level and the professional levels of the game.
Owned and managed by Canadian Soccer Business (CSB) since 2019, and sanctioned by FIFA through the domestic bodies of Canada Soccer and Ontario Soccer, League1 Ontario’s primary focus is the showcase and development of Canada’s future stars.
