Guelph United announces affiliation with Cambridge-based Oriental Sport Club
Guelph United Football Club is pleased to announce an affiliation with Cambridge-based Oriental Sport Club (OSC). The partnership will see both clubs benefit from a player development pathway which will help grow the game in both communities.
OSC has been a staple in the Cambridge soccer scene for nearly 60 years. They are members of OSL (Ontario Soccer League) and KDSL (Kitchener & District Soccer League), and they just acquired a youth club license that they are looking to grow with Guelph United’s support, in order to emphasize on the talented player pathway. The immediate benefit from this affiliation is the fact players registered with Oriental’s OSL team can be called up to League1 on the supplemental roster.
The partnership will ensure a great environment for young players aspiring to play in League1 and above, as we are building a quality relationship to ensure the natural growth of the local players.
“As a former player and now Vice President Club Development, this announcement fills me with tremendous pride and feelings of nostalgia. Since 1965, one of our driving principles has been Player Development and Opportunities. This new partnership with Guelph United aligns very well with that value and provides our players a new pathway for them to showcase their talents.
Guelph United in a very short period of time have become leaders on and off the pitch in League1 Ontario. We are thrilled to start this collaboration, growing the game and enhancing the player experience in our communities.”
“We are very pleased to have an affiliation with a club with similar values to our own, and a club that has been a mainstay in our region since the mid 60’s. We look forward to building a fruitful and respectful relationship in the coming years, one that will have mutual benefits for both clubs and the youth players of the Oriental Sport Club.”
About OSC
Oriental Sport Club (OSC) was founded in 1965 as a Futebol Hub for the growing Portuguese community of (Galt) Cambridge, who brought their passion for the sport to Canada.
Our club’s name, Oriental, is named after a newspaper that shared stories and connected Portuguese immigrants worldwide. Today, we remain a not-for-profit organization, and volunteer-based club that celebrates our rich Portuguese heritage while continuing to innovate and grow our connectivity with our changing community.
No longer merely a Futebol Club, OSC provides Sport & Wellness programs, Heritage & Culture opportunities as well and Banquet & Food Services; all driven by our Portuguese traditions of community building and our Canadian values of leveraging diversity.
