Guelph United clinches spot in 2024 League1 Premier division

What was only a matter of time, after our men’s team followed up a good 2022 season with an even better 2023, is now officially confirmed: Guelph United will be part of next year’s League1 Ontario Premier division.

As previously reported, League1 Ontario is switching to a divisional structure with promotion/relegation starting next year. The best 12 teams on the men’s side will be part of the top-tier Premier division, and will fight for the title and a chance to take part in the following season’s Canadian Championship.

Guelph has joined Vaughan Azzurri, Blue Devils FC and North Toronto Nitros as the first teams who clinched their spot. It’s very likely Simcoe County Rovers, Alliance United, Scrosoppi FC, Prostars FC, Sigma FC and Electric City will book their spots as well in the next few weeks, while the fight for the final 2 spots should last until the very end of the season.

On the women’s side, following two consecutive losses, Guelph Union is still on the outside looking in, just over 4 points below the line with 4 games to go, and will need to go on a win streak to end the season in order to clinch their Premier division spot.
