Roses on the Thanksgiving Table: A Long-Weekend in Windsor
October 8th, 2021, Guelph, ON – The race for November is heating up as three teams fight for the two playoff spots in the League1 Ontario West Division including the Royal City’s own Guelph United FC. Coming off a 3-2 win against Milton’s Scrosoppi FC last weekend, the #UnitedFront are travelling down Highway 401 to the City of Roses to take on Windsor TFC this Sunday, October 10th at 4pm.
United (7-1-0) are entering the match tied for first place in the West with FC London (7-2-0) holding the upper hand however as they have a game in hand. Associate Head Coach Keith Mason and company are hoping not to concede any more points as their remaining four games this season will decide if the fledgling team will make the playoffs in their first season. Opposing GUFC are Windsor TFC (0-8-1) who currently sit at the bottom of the West Division with a singular point from their tie against North Mississauga SC back in August. The last time the #UnitedFront and Windsor met at Alumni Stadium was back on August 14th when the former netted their most dominant win of the season with a 6-0 final score; Guelph are expecting to repeat this success on Sunday whilst hoping that Scrosoppi FC can hold of FC London in their match-up on Friday night.
However, this Thanksgiving long-weekend match up has also allowed Coaches Mason and Springer to highlight some of the younger talent coming up through the Guelph Reserve system as Vahan Sargsyan, Andrew Toale, and new signings Lyth Ibrahim, Jimmy Yancy, Malek Aborig, and Mehdi Al-Heloo will all be donning the gold and black away kit for their inaugural appearances on Guelph’s first squad.
Kickoff at the Windsor Libro Centre is scheduled for 4pm on Sunday with admission free to anyone wishing to make the journey south. Round-trip transportation on the Guelph United coach bus is also available for double-vaccinated members of the public starting at $15 each; please contact admin@guelphunitedfc.ca for more details.
