October 10, 2021, Windsor, ON - After an intense 90-minute affair at Windsor’s Libro Centre, Guelph United FC (8-1-0) defeated the home side Windsor TFC (0-9-1) 4-2 on October 10th. With Guelph trying to stay alive in the Race for November playoff rush, the weather provided a glimmer of hope as the sun shone down upon the #UnitedFront. With the three points secured in the City of Roses, Guelph have once again secured top spot in the League1 Ontario West division over their Oakville-based rivals, the Blue Devils FC (7-2-2).

The match’s opening goal was quick to arrive as Guelph United’s very own Tomasz Skublak (#8) netted his eighth goal of the season in the 5th minute off of a perfect assist by fan favourite defender, Armando Oakley (#4). Not long after Skublak’s opener though, Windsor equalized the match with a well placed shot from outside of the penalty area by James Clark (#8), which Guelph keeper Svyatik Artemanko (#1) could do nothing to stop. The game would remain scoreless until just before halftime when at the 43rd minute, one of Guelph’s newest reserve team signings Mehdi Al-Heloo (#7), would provide a perfectly crossed ball to Denilson Clamp (#18) to score his first ever goal for the #UnitedFront.

Beginning the second half, tensions were high as Windsor hoped to bring home their first win of the season, resulting in numerous yellow cards. These would culminate partway into the half when Windsor’s Bastian Aguilera (#4) would accumulate his second caution off of a foul against Guelph’s Skublak. Now a player down, Windsor began to press again in search of the equalizer, which would come at the 81st minute off of the boot of Kalifa Ihmouda (#5). In the dying minutes of the game and determined not to lose their second of the 2021 Season, another one of Guelph’s newest signings, Jimmy Yancy (#11) would come to his club’s rescue and net the Red and Gold’s third of the night which would be quickly followed by Tommy Skublak’s second of the night by the 85th minute.

When asked about his first team debut and inaugural goal, Yancy, with a smile on his face, said that “it was an unreal experience. I was very happy to get the goal and bring us ahead.”

Catch Guelph United’s next game at home on Tuesday, October 12th at 8:30 pm at the Gryphons Soccer Complex – West Field against Sigma FC. This match is a rescheduled affair from September which saw the squad’s first ever meeting with Sigma be postponed due to a possible exposure to COVID-19 in the Sigma organization. Admission is free to this match up so make sure you come on out and join the #UnitedFront!
