Two late goals send United by winless Windsor TFC

AMHERSTBURG – Guelph United FC needed a pair of goals in the final seven minutes to top Windsor TFC 4-2 and regain top spot in League1 Ontario soccer league’s Men’s Premier West Division Sunday at the Libro Credit Union Centre.

Jimmy Yancy and Tomasz Skublak tallied two minutes apart to prevent United from being the first team to lose to Windsor this season.

Windsor played most of the second half a man down after they had a player sent off early in the half with his second yellow card of the game.

However, Windsor tied the score at 2-2 in the 81st minute on a goal by Kalifa Ihmouda. Yancy’s goal came two minutes later and Skublak netted the final goal two minutes after that.

Skublak finished the game with a pair of goals as he had opened the scoring in the fifth minute after being set up by defender Armando Oakley.

James Clark responded for the hosts to tie the score before Denilson Clamp put United ahead in the 42nd minute with help from call-up Mehdi Al-Heloo.

United leads the West Division at 8-1-0 with three games to go in their regular season. Oakville Blue Devils are second at 7-1-2 while FC London is third at 7-3-0. United has a game in hand on both, but will make that up with a pair of home games this week.

Sigma FC is fourth at 4-2-3 and are followed by Scrosoppi FC at 4-5-1, ProStars Brampton at 3-5-2, North Mississauga SC at 1-8-1 and Windsor TFC at 0-9-1.

United is to host Sigma FC Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. at the Gryphon Soccer Complex in the make-up game of a match postponed early in September.

United is also to host the Blue Devils Sunday at 1 p.m. at Alumni Stadium and complete the regular season Oct. 23 with another game against Sigma FC, this one in Mississauga.
