Guelph United, up to third place after another Centennial Bowl win

It wasn’t an easy matchup yesterday at the Centennial Bowl, despite our opponents, St. Catharines Roma Wolves, being one of the lower ranked teams this season. But in the end, Guelph United still got the 3 points, after a solid performance in a wet, rainy afternoon.

The game started fast, with the Wolves obtaining an early penalty kick, that Carter Robart managed to save. Shortly after, Jared Agyemang bagged his fifth goal of the season to give Guelph the lead. The game continued to be a back and forth affair, with the hosts missing good opportunities from Agyemang and Milan Beader. Our guests increased pressure in towards the end of the match, but Robart was always up for the task.

In injury time, Camilo Vasconcelos increased our lead after an excellent counter attack, and, moments later, with seconds to go, the Wolves obtained another penalty kick, that they managed to convert, for the final score of 2-1.

The win keeps our team undefeated for the season, and we are now in third place in a very highly contested top of the standings of League1 Ontario.

Next week sees our men’s team play 2 extremely important and challenging matches. On Wednesday, we travel to Mississauga, to face Sigma FC, who we are tied with on points. Then, next Sunday, as part of another doubleheader at Centennial Bowl, we face the current champions, and fellow undefeated team, Vaughan Azzurri.
