He’s back! Amardo Oakley returns to Guelph United

Our long-term captain and first half-Centurion is back to Guelph United for 2025! We’re thrilled to announce we signed full-back Amardo Oakley for the new season.

“Oaks” has spent the last year playing professionally in the Irish First Division, for Athlone Town FC, appearing in 37 matches and contributing one goal and 4 assists.

During his time there, he was also teammates with our new keeper Jack Harrington.

Before his move to Ireland, Amardo has become our captain, and a true staple of our team through the first 3 seasons in League1 Ontario. He led the team to the title in 2021, and later became the first Guelph United player to reach the milestone of 50 appearances for the club - ending with 55 before his transfer to Ireland.

Oakley’s outstanding League1 career has been rewarded by winning the Defender of the Year Award in both 2021 and 2022, as well as being a finalist in 2023; he has also won our own GUFC Player of the Year Awards in 2021 and 2022.

Amardo’s signing completes our roster to begin the 2025 league season, with 20 players signed to senior deals. Our men’s team will play a few games away from home, before the Centennial Bowl home opener on May 25th. Make sure to buy your game tickets or season tickets, and come see Amardo in person this summer at the Bowl!
