Guelph United signs Canadian defender Tia Schaffer

Guelph United continues to add reinforcements in anticipation of an exciting 2025 season. Today, we’re happy to reveal the signing of Canadian defender Tia Schaffer.

Hailing from Saskatoon, SK, Tia spent the last 4 seasons playing in U Sports with the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks. She became an integral part of the Ridgebacks’ defense, appearing in 43 matches, and earning plenty of recognition, including Rookie of the Year in 2021, Academic All-Canadian in 2022, and OUA Second Team All-Star in 2023.

In 2022, Tia made her club debut in League1 Ontario, signing with Simcoe County Rovers, and appearing in 9 matches for the Barrie club. In 2023, she moved to FC London, for which she appeared in 26 matches over the course of 2 seasons.

GUFC Women kicks off the 2025 season on Thursday, with a L1 Cup first round match against League2 side Railway City FC, based in St. Thomas, ON. The match will be played in Hamilton.

They include 21 matches (the 11 men’s home matches in the L1O Championship division, the 9 women’s home matches in the L1O Premier division, and the 1 confirmed home match in the L1 Cup - to be played in Hamilton).
