Guelph United names Randy Ribeiro as new head coach of women’s team

Following the departure of Ivan Joseph, Guelph United is proud to announce Randy Ribeiro as the new head coach of our women’s team.

Ribeiro has spent the last 2 seasons being the head coach of both men’s and women’s teams of Electric City FC. Last season, despite not making the playoffs, he guided both teams to a top 10 finish, which qualified them to the 2024 League1 Ontario Premier Division. Before Electric City, Randy was an assistant coach for FC London’s women’s team, and head coach for their reserve team.

“I’m really excited. Guelph is a club with a lot of history in League1, and after speaking with Keith and the club, and understanding what the goals and visions are, I’m really excited to have a part to play in getting them to where they want to be”, said Ribeiro.

“I’m excited to meet the players, meet the fans, and be a part of the Guelph community. We want to be a competitive group, that plays good football, and is difficult to play against. Obviously, the main goal is to win the league. But there are a lot of small goals along the way that we’re going to try to hit, and with the club’s vision, and the people that are involved, I believe we can achieve good things in 2024”.

We’re very excited to have someone with Randy’s experience join our women’s program. We really think he can help us build the program to the levels that match our ambitions of competing in the Premier Division
— Keith Mason, Guelph United GM

Guelph United’s women’s team will be part of the top division of League1 Ontario, in the league’s new structure that features a promotion and relegation system between the 3 tiers. The Premier Division will feature the top 10 teams in the province, which will play an 18-match regular season.
