League1 Ontario announces 2024 season structure
Some highlights of the new format:
Three divisions: Premier (top tier), Championship (second tier), League2 (third tier)
There will be no playoffs. The regular season winner is crowned champion.
Last place in Premier relegates to Championship; first place in Championship promotes to Premier
Second-last place in Premier plays a match against second place in Championship to determine who stays in which division
No direct relegation from Championship in 2024, because of the desire to get that division up to 12 teams as well.
League2 will have regional conferences and a 4-team playoff at the end, to determine the 2 direct promotion spots and the third place, which will play a match against the last place in Championship
Knockout cup competition that will run in parallel with the leagues, and will feature all teams, regardless of tier. The initial draw for the Cup will be made on February 22.
