Two convincing wins to start the home season for our men’s team
Then, on Victoria Day, not even a thunderstorm in the area, which delayed the start of the match by 20 minutes, could stop our in-form attack from putting on a show. Against our old rivals from Oakville, Blue Devils FC, the team we defeated in that memorable 2021 final which brought the championship to Guelph in our inaugural season, it was Kyle Cordeiro who scored first in the 14th minute, to open his account for Guelph United. And then, who else but Jared Agyemang, our leading goalscorer, who added two beautiful goals to get our lead to 3-0, and his season tally to 5 in only 5 matches played. The second half saw our guests attack more, and miss a few opportunities to score, but our keeper Jake Findlay was always up to the task. Blue Devils eventually got their goal, in the 93rd minute, but it was too little, too late.
These 3 points mean Guelph United is now up to 6th place in the Premier Division, 6 points behind leaders Burlington SC. Our next match will take place on Sunday, at 5.30 pm, against second-place Scrosoppi FC - part of a Centennial Bowl double-header with our women’s team, who faces North Mississauga SC at 2 pm. Meanwhile, our women’s team kicks off their Centennial Bowl season tomorrow, Tuesday May 21st, against NDC Ontario, in the L1 Cup Round of 16. Get your tickets here!
