It was a tale of two games, two draws, but different consequences for our teams on Sunday, both against the same opponent, Burlington SC.

Guelph Union followed up their impressive win in Hamilton with another victory, 1-0 against a solid North Mississauga SC side, last night at the Centennial Bowl.

However, with 2 games to go in the regular season, the chances to make the playoffs decreased, after a few out-of-town results did not favor our side. As for the race for the 2024 Premier Division, the odds are better, but we still rely on other teams dropping points.

Both our teams went on the road this weekend, and returned with convincing wins, the largest of the season.
Our men’s team headed to Scarborough, and defeated Master’s FA 6-0. Meanwhile, the women got the job done in Hamilton, a 4-1 win that keeps our team alive in the playoff race.

What was only a matter of time, after our men’s team followed up a good 2022 season with an even better 2023, is now officially confirmed: Guelph United will be part of next year’s League1 Ontario Premier division.

Both our men’s and women’s teams are playing in hugely important away games, and both of them have been announced by League1 Ontario as “Match of the Week”. This means you can spend your Saturday and Sunday watching Guelph United and Guelph Union on YouTube, in the official streams provided by League1 Ontario.

Guelph United’s reigning U21 Player of the Year leaves for Halifax today, to trial with Canadian Premier League’s HFX Wanderers.
He will train with the senior team, but will also get the chance to play in two U23 matches, against German 2.Bundesliga side Holstein Kiel U23.

Guelph United got another win last Friday in Whitby, and is looking to keep the streak going, tonight at the Centennial Bowl, against Windsor City FC. Meanwhile, the women’s team split two games last week: an important win against Tecumseh SC, and a tough loss against top ranked Vaughan Azzurri.

With League1 Ontario set to switch to a divisional structure with promotion/relegation from 2024, let’s take a quick look at where our teams stand, halfway through the season which will decide next year’s alignment.

In a beautiful Father’s Day afternoon at the Centennial Bowl, Guelph United managed to defeat the 2022 champions, 1-0, after an incredible performance from Carter Robart, whose goalkeeping heroics kept Vaughan off the board, and brought Guelph 3 points that see us jump back up in the playoff spots.

It wasn’t an easy matchup yesterday at the Centennial Bowl, despite our opponents, St. Catharines Roma Wolves, being one of the lower ranked teams this season. But in the end, Guelph United still got the 3 points, after a solid performance in a wet, rainy afternoon.

Guelph United’s wonderkid Camilo Vasconcelos has signed a short term development deal with Canadian Premier League side York United. He will be available for selection for York’s game against Atletico Ottawa, tonight at 7.30 PM.

This past week has seen our two teams play a total of three games, all of them away from home. And, although we did not obtain any wins, there are plenty of positives to talk about.

Centennial Bowl is becoming a fortress for Guelph United in 2023. In another exciting double header on Sunday, the men’s and women’s teams won another two games, and are now 4 for 4 at our new home.

Both Guelph United teams managed to win their Centennial Bowl openers yesterday evening, in a couple of fun, exciting games.
